If you’re growing chillies in containers, it might be time to swap your plastic pots for fabric grow bags. The biggest advantage is root health: grow bags are breathable, which “air prunes” roots as they reach the fabric wall instead of circling endlessly like they do in a pot. The result is a denser, more efficient root system that takes up nutrients and water more effectively.
Grow bags also improve drainage and airflow, reducing the risk of waterlogging and root rot — a common issue with habaneros and other hot varieties that hate wet feet. They regulate soil temperature better too, staying cooler in summer heat.
That healthier root system pays off above the soil line, too. A fibrous, well-branched root mass takes up water and nutrients more efficiently, giving you stronger, more even top growth and better resilience to heat stress.
